Most Common Mistakes Made When Shopping for a Sofa February 15 2019

Shopping for a sofa can be an exciting process, as it’s a staple piece for your living room. You want to be comprised of many things – affordable price, stylish, pretty in color, comfortable, etc. When shopping for a sofa, it’s easy to get caught up in the process, making some mistakes along the way. Here are the most common mistakes made during sofa shopping.

  1. Purchasing pieces that are too small or too big. This is usually the number one mistake made when shopping for a sofa. This is due to failing to measure the space the piece will go in, as well as the doorways it has to fit through when being delivered.

  2. Failing to test the piece before buying. Make sure the piece is not only the right size for the room but also the right size for you. If you’re tall in height, you’ll want a sofa with seating that is deep enough for you to sit comfortably. If you’re shorter or have issues with your knees, you’ll want a sofa with a shallow seat so you can rise easily. Before buying a sofa, test it by sitting on it and/or lying down on it. Check the arms to make sure they’re the right height, and make sure the cushions and back are soft or firm.

  3. Choosing the wrong style, fabric, and/or color. Keep the other pieces of furniture in the room in mind while you’re shopping for a sofa. You’ll want a piece that works well with what is already in the room. Choose fabric based on how the sofa will be used and where it will be placed. If it’s going in a room that is heavily used, a delicate fabric or color can easily be destroyed.

  4. Purchasing a piece that is poor in quality. You’ll want a sofa that stands the test of time and can truly hold up to wear and tear over the years. It would be a shame to spend your hard earned money on a sofa that will lose its shape, fade in color, and decrease in comfort in just a few years. This means you’ll be back to square one, looking for a replacement and spending more money.
